Series Description

This series ‘IPS Intelligentsia Series on Medicinal Plants, Herbology and Phytochemistry' describes drug discovery opportunities from medicinal plants. It plans to include books (monograph, edited books and reference works) from all areas of phytochemistry, herbal medicine, medicinal chemistry for drug discovery.

Overview

Plants, often referred to as chemical factories, are promising sources of novel lead chemical compounds. Plants produces tens of thousands of chemical entities with few currently serving as models or chemical scaffolds in which without them, the few existing drugs wouldn’t have been discovered. The ancient traditional knowledge on the use of herbs for the treatment of various diseases remains underexplored in the world of modern science for the discovery of new and potent drugs against the world’s debilitating diseases. This is largely due to the limitations occasioned by the lack of clear conceptual framework or documentations of the traditional knowledge about plants. These prospects about Medicinal plants as sources of drugs needs to be fully explored through the in-depth systematic description of the Phytochemistry, ethnopharcological features and the ethnobotanical Uses of these plants, whether sacred or not, vascular or non-vascular. This series entitled ‘IPS Series on Medicinal Plants, Herbology and Phytochemistry’ fulfils this need by presenting books that made complete coverage of the world’s Medicinal flora from all regions of the world. It explores the folkloric uses of plants and their applications for the treatment of diseases, method of use and preparations in ethnicity. Written by global team of experts in synergy and consultations of the informal sectors and herbal practitioners across the globe, this series will be invaluable to Medicinal chemists, drug researchers working in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and in pharmaceutical contract research organizations. The university professors, principal investigators, senior staff, scholars, postdoctoral students, and technical staff working in drug research institutions or laboratories will find the books of this series useful. Also, this series will benefit the non-profit research institutions, government research laboratories, venture capitalists, and instrumentation and supplies vendors in the business of drug discovery.
